Gin Is In for 2016! 3 Fabulous Gin Cocktails For Your Wedding Day

Designing your own signature cocktail has become a must-have wedding trend, as it is a perfect way to put your personal stamp on the ceremony and give your guests a refreshing start to your festivities. However, there’s a nearly endless amount of options to choose from and ideally you want to try and strike a balance between your flavor palette and a universal cocktail that a vast majority of your guests will try and actually enjoy!

In 2016, the trendiest spirit is gin, and this clear spirit pairs well with lighter, fruitier ingredients to really open up your options. Gin is most often used as a base for martinis, but it has gained popularity as a dynamic spring and summer spirit that will pair beautifully with your warm weather backdrop. If you can’t quite pick the perfect signature cocktail for your special day, the following gin concoctions are a few of our favorites here at Nanina’s in the Park that may be the perfect way to greet your guests.

  1. Cucumber Infused Gin Grapefruit Fizz

This recipe capitalizes on the classic combination of gin and cucumber but gives it a fruity twist. Simply slice up a few cucumbers and place them in a water pitcher with gin to release the natural juices of the cucumbers. This should be refrigerated for at least 12 hours, but optimally it should be allowed to infuse for 3 days. Once this is ready, simply combine ice, the infused gin, grapefruit soda and garnish with a few cucumber wedges on the rim of the glass and you’ll have a dynamic addition to your cocktail menu.

  1. Cherry Julep

We all know the classic Mint Julep is a gin cocktail mainstay, but the Cherry Julep is a welcome departure from convention that combines sweet and savory ingredients in a knockout libation. The drink is made by muddling together maraschino cherries, cherry juice, sugar and lemon together, and then adding 1 ounce of Kirsch brandy, 1 ounce of sloe gin and 1.5 ounces of gin. This combination strained over crushed ice will combine the diverse flavor profile of the liquors with the festive sweetness of the fruity ingredients for a refreshing drink your guests will love.

  1. Gin Old Fashioned

If you’re a fan of the Old Fashioned, this is a similar drink that features the brightness of gin with the classic combination of simple sugar and Angostura bitters. Start by taking a thin strip of lemon peel and rub it around the rim of the glass and add one sugar cube to the glass and top it with 3-4 dashes of Angostura bitters. Last but not least, add about 2 ounces of gin to the mixture and stir and let sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld. You may begin to wonder why you ever drank an Old Fashioned with whiskey!
